oh well.... ang deadline ng PRC form ay sa friday nah....at xempre...sa hinaba haba ng time na ggwin yan, ngayon kau nagmamadali,,,kakaloka!

at ito pa...

naisip ba ngn iba sa n u na 5AM pa lang gising na aq at nag duty sa OR ng 6 - 3..(ksi may case) at nagstay pa sa ofis til 7PM para lang ma accomodate q kau...

Last Duty Day..Rotation 1 : CHO, Stgo City

TodaY is our last day at the CHO..for this rotation. as expected, we were kept busy by the constant arrival of patients seeking medical attention though most are adults (since its their schedule)..still the virtue of "konsiderasyon" was seen.... lots of pedia patients were attended to by nurses, aids and doctors.

Improvement in the basic nursing skills of some were seen. MOst are now confident in vital sign taking and some got a grasp on how to assess a patient thereby making them more effective student nurses. Time will come for these new breed of nurses to show how skillful they are as products of the new BSN Curriculum.

Though there are still some who lacks the confidence to perform simple nursing skills, still it did not outshone the number of those who can.

Majority of those assigned in the admission area where patients are admitted for check-ups are already competent in taking vital signs though they need more practice. Some i could say, still lacks the initiative.. while there is one whom i think will perform better if she accepts that she should first be a helper before she can be the master..(lolz)

Students who were assigned in the Doctors Clinic got lighter jobs. However light it may be, they should still be more patient in their roles... add personal touches to their job like talk to the patients..ask them if they are comfortable..how do they feel. but hei..they got a long way to go.

For those at the treatment area, lucky are they coz Faith is there so its a lot easier dealing with patients whose problems are more of the surgical type rather than medical. However, i observed that the virtue of assertiveness is still not noticeable. THeir superior still has to give them instructions for them to perform what is expected of them.

Dental assistance is a lot easier. However, students assigned in this area should really be skillful in vital signs taking specially the blood pressure.

As a whole... i can say, job well done... though you are not yet experts, at least you passed the NOVICE stage already..

i wonder where my feet will bring me...

life is a journey... as we travel through time, we get to meet people... some goes..some stays..
there are those who goes and leave their mark... while others dont..

if i have to live my life all over again, will i still choose where i am now??? YES!
what i have now may not be heaven ... nor hell.. not even close to being in the purgatory, but i can say, im happy as it is... im happy as i am..

i may not have the material things others have... i may not have 48 hours RLE duty like the others, but i have the respect of people who values me, and accepts me as i am.. im happy knowing that i am a role model to them..and moreso, they treat me not just as their teacher, but their second mom, their big (AS IN BIG) sister and their friend...

i dont care about material things... i never was and never will be... these fade in time, they may become decripit, lose their shine, and after a while, thrown in the garbage can...

what i value most are the people who values me too.. the people who understands me, and believes in what i believe in... these dont fade.. they are never stolen.. they never wither..they never waver...

unconditional love.. unwavering friendship... that's what they give... and i give it to them in return too.

where will all these lead me????
will there be life after NC???
will there be life after College of Nursing??

OF COURSE! life goes on... with God's help... and the support of my (TRUE) friends and my students... i believe my wandering feet will finally find its new home...

March is fast approaching...some will graduate, some won't... Though, it would be very difficult to see your classmates march towards the stage while you stay at the sidelines cheering them on, still..think about it...maybe, God made it thta way in order to help you mature into a better individual and He has better plans for you.. Let us remember too, that God wants the best for us just like what our parents want. It may be hard , painful and sorrowful at first... you might engage in a drinking spree... have bouts of depression but still, the fact that you wont be in that stage receiving your diploma stays...

On the other hand, if you were one of the lucky people who made it to the graduating list, then i say, CONGRATULATIONS..PALAKPAKAN... As you march towards the stage, i hope that you will see your life as it was four or five years ago before you enrolled in the College of Nursing... who you met, your friends, your teachers, people who came and are now gone... people who came and stayed... people who boosted your morale.. and people who put you down... still, these are the people who made you what you are now... without them, you wont be the person you are...

your parents ,,, guardians... your family would be the most proud people in the world on the day you graduate...

I as your mentor would be too....

hei, dont you know that I am a cry baby??? well, I am! and Im not ashamed to show how humane i am... that beneath the strict, rigid and sometimes toxic mam nhelia is a heart of "mam0n" (lolz) ....

the second rotation at QPH PEdia Am duty has ended with a BANG!!! imagine..for the last 3 weeks, it has been toxic everyday... but its really amazing coz during the last day of duty, it was so serene .// we sent 8 patients home/... there were lesser errors.. all members of the group cooperated... work was so light/// d masyado matoxic..kya lang mapanghi ang ward...waaaaaaaa/....

anyways.. this area is for the LFD of the group...

how did it start???

i like to explore this through songs....

FRIEND OF MINE (revived lots of times already)....i guess friendship....sharing one's story with someone who listens... someone who cares... shares interest.. likes and dislikes...

Someone once says " a relationship built on friendship last longer than those forced by circumstances...

IT MIGHT BE YOU...love develops... and the rest, as they say is history...now , they spend more time with each other... all is good in their world... every glance, touch, smile, a hug, a kiss is memorable. The day is not complete without a text , a call.. or simply sitting together...they see the world in each other's eyes, mindless of the problems of the world.

then revelations...FOOLISH HEART...affairs of the heart are the hardest to manage. Most often, we are good in giving advices to our friends...but when it comes to our own decisions.. we flunk the test. people in love make stupid decisions... they are blinded by their emotions. they resist interventions from people around them.. and treat most people as enemies instead of allies.... that's the painful side of loving... accepting even when its hard to accept...it's a YOU and ME against the world kind of feeling...

it hurts... BROKEN STRING...lies... heartaches... denial.. depression... everything seems to happen all at the same time. every single thing reminds you of the person you love... the person you thought you'd be spending your lifetime with... this is the time when you just wanna break down and cry,,,the hardest part of being in love. ILL NEVER GET OVER YOU (GETTING OVER ME)

realization comes...IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE (but its over now) time to cry.. you are allowed to anyways... dont cry because its over..rather smile because it happened. love is a wonderful feeling. but stuck to that wonderful feeling is the risk of losing your heart to one person whom you would lose in the end... but still . be thankful coz youve known a such a person.

Acceptance... IM ALMOST OVER YOU...deeply breathe and say.."GoodbYe.. I wish you well" .. loving is not selfishness. when you love, you should be ready to let them go to if letting them go is the only way to make them happy. yes, it will hurt.... it hurts a lot! this is the essence of being human. Time heal all wounds. there will be scars... scars that will remind us that life is not a walk in the park... it is instead a walk along a rocky path... a path that will surely strengthen you... firms your faith... and keeps you in a steady face along the walk of life...

JOY and PAIN... two opposite terms... yet both are equally important in this game called LIFE...

Most often, we judge people by how we see them, by what others tell about them and by our personal experiences with them. Lots were said pertaining to judgement of characters and one is liable to believe the bad things rather than the good things about people. Tag lines are labeled... She is like this, she is like that... and so on... so without bothering to know that person, you make your judgement.

Such thing happens everyday. Falling out of relationships between families, friends and lovers... its a normal occurence in this complex world of ours. though one is inclined to believe otherwise, the actual events lead to one way or another, and booommm... emotions explode.

The reputation of one person or one group most often determines how people react to them, how we treat them and how we relate with them. Though most often, our instincts tell us to give them a chance, still an inner voice tells us not to do so.

Like what happened recently. Its a fact that i have student friends.. though these students knew and respect my being an instructor to them, still arguments, misunderstanding is normal, right? Personally, i was really offended by the complaints which reach my ear. and i gave attention to it immediately..

As ive said earlier, judgements are made based on the events that occur, when they occur, how they occur and to whom they occur.

Well, there is still that invisible line that separates us, clinical instructors from you students/...
though most of you are mature enough, you have families, children, still we cannot avoid the fact that you symphatize with your classmates.. and that's fine...

Just a word of advice though.... before you complain, make sure that you have your facts right... try to find out if the thing that you want to complain really exist, or its just hearsay... always look at both sides... you wouldn't want to be in my shoes anyway... this is how a mature person behaves...

well lessons learned... Block B and the Ci's survived and surpassed the two weeks of affiliation amiably... there were unavoidable circumstances.. well, again, that is another thought to ponder...

to end this blog, we all learn from our mistakes. These are life's lessons. these matters make us mature.. and prepare us to become better nurses... nurses who are committed to take care of people an dnot animals... nurses who are expected to treat each situation objectively and react without personal intentions... nurses who think rationally and observes keenly, in short..

NURSES WHO LOOK BEFORE SHE LEAPS...

well, au revoir, Block B....

it was a learning experience for me and for the 3 other CI's...

Hopefully, now we can co-exist amiably... and not harsh in issuing judgements...

It was nice teaching you, guys.... i hope i was a good, if not better or best instrument of learning...

Those of us that dare to put our dreams down on paper are showing the courage and faith that they will come true.

All of us dream... these dreams differ as we grow older.

when we were children, we dream of toys for christmas, new clothes, and places we wanna see...

once we reached adolescent, we dreamt of guys we like in school, or of having the latest fad like in clothes, shoes, bags and toys...

young adulthood signals the start of lifelong dreams...of us fulfilling what we want in life... of us achieving something in our lives. we dream of having a stable and fulfilling job, we dream of our life partners, of us being able to afford things like house, car, trips abroad...

the middle adulthood however is our turning point in dreams.. we start to dream not for ourselves, but for our children, for our families future.. our own desires no longer matter..our own ambition put aside for our families dream.

dreams make us a lot stronger.. it serves us our guiding light
... a syllabus of sorts... and its realization is its end point.

31st Oktubre, 2008- hay naku... sa wakas, natapos na naman ang first semester. Tapos na din ang busy days ng mga CI at panahon na naman ng pag eenroll ng mga students for the second sem...

Xempre, bagong set na nman ng students ang kahaharapin ng bawat isa sa aming mga CI at mga academic Instructors. Masaya din kme na nakadagdag na nman kme ng kaalaman sa mga students naming mag - aadvance na. Ung mga minalas, gaya ng mga lower than 75 ang grades, sorry na lang sa kanila. Kasi di nman pwede na puro na lang awa. Dapat mas madaming gawa kaysa sa awa... paano kame maaawa kung ang mag-aaral ay hindi nman naaawa sa kanyang magulang???

Kung cno ka man, dapat naka lagpas ka na sa identity crisis ng buhay mo. kung tlgang di mo gustong maging nurse, at ikaw ay pinilit lamang, aba, e mag shift ka na! Wag mo nang pahirapan ang iyong sarili, ang iyong mga magulang at kaming mga teachers mo!

Ang panalangin ko lamang, para sa lahat ng aking mga estudyante ay iisa. Na sana makamit nyo ang inyong mithiin sa buhay. Kung ang pagiging nurse ay tlgang hindi ninyo gusto, iyan ay nakikita sa klase ng "performance" nyo. kaya magpakatotoo na kayo!

Ung mga nakalagpas sa hirap, GOODLUCK and STRIVE HARDER!

Mr. Bart Ikero is a 58-year-old man who is scheduled for permanent pacemaker insertion as treatment for a tachydysrhythmia that doesn’t respond to medication therapy. Eto pa isang masaya. Nakakita xla ng 2 rabies patients. Imagine that??? Hay swerte tlga.
Masaya din ang inyong abang lingkod sapagkat sa aqn natapat ang grupo na marunong makipagcooperate. Nag ward class sila. At ang suggestion q ay knilang sinunod (pero palpak lang ang handout kz baliktad,,, Hahahaha)... pero okey na dn. at least xla may meryenda. Ung grupo ni mam luisa, both 1 and 3, ala!!! Mantakin nyo un. at muntik pa xla d na kapag ward class e kz nman... basta...
To cut the long story short, Affiliation 2008 has ended. Not with a Bang but with rain.. lots of rain... mabuti na lang mabait ang mamang driver ng Baliwag... at xempre ang mga boys ang girls n tumulong... (slamat)...

kagaya ng naunang mga batch, ang orientation sa SLH at tunay na inaabangan. Hindi dahil sa mga experiences na kanilang makukuha kundi dhil sa 2 CI na makakasama nila ng isang linggo.

Ang araw ay nagsimulang maganda, first batch poh kme at napaaga ang aming pag-uwi sa dorm.

kinagabihan, matapos nmin kumain at mabusog, kami ay naupo na upang mapakinggan ang hnandang report ng 2 studnt nurse. ang PTB.

bilang paghahanda sa kanilang duty sa TB ward, xla ay nabgyan ng advance info.

dumating ang araw sa PTB ward.. kmi ay di gaanong nahirapan. mababait ang aming mga pasyente at di kme natoxic. subalit ng matatapos na ang aming duty, kami ay pinakitaan ng balde baldeng hemoptysis. hay buhay!

ngunit subalit datapwat sa aming pag uwi, kme ay nagpasalamat at nakaraos kme ng isang araw muli.

June 30, 2008 - Today is the first day of the last week of affiliation for the first batch of Nursing affiliates... Mixed emotions are now going around among the affiliates/ Some are excited, some are sad (i think), some still dont know if they are excited or not.
The culminating program wll be held on Thursday, July 3.. at the Dorm.. after dinner. PReparation is now underway with the mental group in-charge of the activity. There will be parlor games, sharing of experiences and the search for Miss Gay Affiliation 2008 and Miss Affiliation 2008. The students and the CIs are very excited/ Hopefully, the occasion will cement the strong bond formed by Block A and Block B.

I really just hope that this affiliation will be a big learning experience for the students.

June 9, 2008 (9AM)... The Northeastern College - Nursing Department is now on its third Affiliation in the three specialized Tertiary Hospitals in Manila namely San LAzaro Hospital, National Center for Mental Health and Philippine Orthopedic Center. The fourth year Nursing students were assigned in 2 Batches. Block A and B comprises the 1st Batch while Block C comprises the second batch.
The 85 students were accompanied by 5 CIs and the dean of the college. Ms Maricel Manuzon and Ms Noralyn Ualat are handling students at NCMH, Mr Arthur Garcia and the Dean are handling students at POC and the two Coordinators, Ms Luisa Valencia, Clinical Coordinator and yours truly, Academic Coordinator are handling students at San Lazaro Hospital. To make sure that students are well prepared for their exposure at the 3 hospitals, concepts on CommunicABLE dISEASE nursing were incorporated in their NCM 102 while 4 units of their NCM 104 was offered last summer 20o8 and this includes Psychiatric Nursing and Orthopedic Nursing.

Students are housed at the Good Sheperd LAdies Dorm in Sampaloc. Rules and regulations are imposed to ensure order.

Though the experience is a lot different from QPH, the school's base hospital, still it was noted that the BSNstudents of NC competes with the other students from City schools in terms of skills//

And for that, Im proud...

The first week passed. At the end of the weekend, 40+ students were grounded due to varied violations.

But all in all, it still amazes me how people react to different situations.. how they improve as nurses and as people!!!

This is just the beginning.

ABC's of Nursing

	is for assessment. Nurses are great at assessing everything, e.g. patients, nursing care, each other, the work environment, and physicians.
	is for body, which becomes someone else's when one is admitted to the hospital. Nurses take care of the body, along with the mind and soul.
	is for *charting*, which is never ending. Student nurses need to be warned that when they are graduate nurses, they will probably have to chart on 10 different pieces of paper for every day - unless their hospitals use the other "C" word - computers.
	is for death, which nurses must face and work with, but should never give in to.
	is for endless, which is what nursing care activities mostly seem to be.
	is for finances, which is what keeps the hospitals open and the nurses employed. Most nurses know about hospital finances, especially when it impacts on the personal finances.
	is for goals. These are usually identified for the patient, but can be personal if the need arises.
	is for healthy, which nurses want to be because they don't want to be admitted to a hospital and have to be a patient.
	is for infection, also known as cystitis, which some researches claim nurses have more of because they never have time to go to the bathroom.
	is for joy, which nurses experience when their patients (both favorite and unfavorite) recover enough to go home.
	is for *knowledge*, which nurses have a lot of. They know about nursing, doctoring, diets, teaching, giving helping, caring facilitation, consulting, and fixing. They use most of it, so they try to keep getting it.
	is for laboratory reports, which have a tendency to show up on the wrong charts for the wrong patients at the wrong time, which nurses have to look out for constantly.
	is for movement, which nurses oversee so that patients either do or don't do, helping patients understand what and how to do or not do.
	is for needles. Nurses are concerned today because needles not only stick the patients; they may also stick the nurse with something that can be life threatening.
	is for orientation, which tells the new nurse that he or she is either going to fit or not fit into the hospital's culture. It is not too late to change your mind.
	is for priorities, which nurses must be great at setting whether it's patient care, preparing the operating room for surgery, or generating a budget.
	is for questions, which nurses answer a million of a day from patients, families, other members of the healthcare team, nursing colleagues, or administration.
	is for risk taking. Nurses take risks daily to attain the optimum care they think their patients need.
	is for surgery. While nurses don't do the cutting, they do the preparing, planning, assisting and teaching, which contributes to the outcome.
	is for *teaching*, which is an original major function of nursing. Since today there is a shortage of nurses and an abundance of physicians, many physicians are identifying teaching as a medical function, which nurses should be aware of in order to not lose it.
	is for *uniform*, which used to always be white for nurses on the units and scrubs for nurses in specialty areas. But today, nurses may wear scrubs or street clothes on the units and nurses in specialty areas are wearing jump suit cover-ups, or space suits, which is why name tags are required.
	is for values, which nurses and administrators often seem to have differences in. This is okay as they can be worked out in the decision-making process.
	is for *walking*, which nurses must be sure the ambulatory patients can do before they are discharged. It also can be the miles that nurses walk each day just doing their job. (Some have guesstimated 20 miles a day on an average, busy unit.)
	is for x-rays, which nurses must be sure they don't get too much of, in order to ensure there are enough new little nurses to carry on the profession.
	is for you, the most important person in nursing. The heart of nursing is giving of yourself, but be sure not to give it all away and have to leave nursing.
	is for zoo, which is where nurses often say they work, but then, doesn't everybody?

I have been away for 3 days for a little bit of R & R with my bestfriend who is also my ex-boyfriend, and presently my roommate, my husband Reggie.

oooooooooopppsss. actually, i went to Manila for the renewal of contract with San lazaro hospital and to make arrangements for the preceptorship training of our two CIs, Mam Maricel and Mam Nora...

after my official duties, we had a little bit of rest and relaxation. We stayed at a low-cost, but nice and cozy apartelle located in Quezon City, along west avenue... we sampled foods of different variety... chinese, japanese, korean, filipino, american, .... and we enjoyed it. It was really a learning experience for me. Then at night, we went bar-hopping and just enjoyed the show. no alcoholic beverage for me (my roommate does not like it when I drink)...

Friendster is a social networking website, similar to Myspace and Facebook. The site basically works in the same way in that people can register and create blogs, post pictures, search for classmates, add friends, share videos, view profiles, and much more.

Friendster was created in 2002 by Jonathan Abrams, in Mountain View, California. Previously, it was known as the top social networking website, but was taken over by myspace. In 2003, Google offered $30,000,000 to buy out Friendster, but the owners refused, and decided that the site should remain privately owned.

The majority of users on Friendster are aged 21 - 30, and are mainly from North America, Asia and Europe.

Unlike Myspace, the site requires visitors to register before they use the search facility and view users' profiles. With Myspace, people who are not registered can search for users on the site and visit their profile, but friendster does not allow any of this unless the visitor signs up.

People in the Philippines are so engrossed with Friendster... Why..??? It is a lot more safe that chat sites like yahoo, imeem, or icq. I know coz I myself have a friendster account (and so do other CIs in the Nursing Department). It s a Cool site. You get to meet people from other parts of the Philippines and the world. Most are accomodating and will accept your invites even if they don't know you personally..

It is also a giant photo album where you can store and post your pictures for others to see. It is more convenient coz u dont have to send it to individual emails anymore.

Moreover, it develops your artistic ability coz u get to choose your layout.. a layout which will be a reflection of your personality.

Male student from Block A topped the Diagnostic Exams for 2008 NLE

MERGE Inc. , the review center commissioned by the school administered the diagnostic examinations to the 112 members of the Nursing Batch 2008 last monday, January 28, 2008 at the school's AVR. Its purpose is to evaluate the knowledge of the students regarding nursing concepts learned. THe result was immediately forwarded to the office of the Dean, College of Nursing.

According to our Clinical Coordinator, our second batch fared well. It was found out that there were more above average and average students compared to those below average. With this information, the morale of the the faculty and staff of the College of Nursing increased.
A male student from 4A topped the exams but sad to say, the student who got the lowest score also came from the said block. The scores of the students are not yet divulged to them.
The actual review classes will start on wednesday, January 30th and will end on March (the exact date is still not definite).
To those who made it to the top, you made us all proud to be a part of your learnings... and to those who were not able to perform well, keep on reading and Pray... for God is the ultimate source of knowledge.

I saw an improvement in all of you. Your skills were all rough during the first week but truly I can say, that you have improved as a Student Nurse. How I wish, grading you is as simple as winking my eye. But you know that it is not that easy.

Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results.

Whatever happens, I am confident that you will be able to see the reason behind your failure.

As I always say, God does not always answer YES or NO. Sometimes he answers WAIT...

THIRD YEAR MALE WARD AM LFD: 2ND WEEK

Even before I handled this group, I already have fears that I may not be effective as a CI to them coz other CI's have warned me regarding the attitudes of some members of this group beforehand...

But after 2 weeks of exposure in the Male ward, I found out that most of them can change... if you give them challenging case to handle... but I guess there is always an exception to the rule. Some still commit the same mistakes and still does not remember the routine.
I hope and pray that most of them will; really become licensed nurses someday...
